In a genre where so often we find music and melody meandering aimlessly, and lyrics without substance yet full of cliché,
we find an act who have become students to the greatest and learned from their influences, and who come to deliver a fascinating aural presentation of progressive Metal.
Fornost Arnor was founded by Greg Chivers who released their debut album ‘Escaping The Abyss’ on his own label With-King Records:
“the style of songwriting and instrumentation thankfully resemble that of Ihsahn’s eponymous solo project...
acoustic breaks have a clear sense of purpose while swirling leads and solos are expertly constructed and absolutely integral rather than pure auditory masturbation...
Fornost Arnor give the impression of being largely devoid of pretension and are equally content to plunge forward with punishingly desolate powerchords when situation dictates.”
- The Metal Archives
In 2010, a final line up change brought Fornost Arnor’s more symphonic Black metal sound up to date with a more Progressive and organic edge.
The band comprises of:
Greg Chivers (Vocals, Guitar, EBow and Acoustic Guitar), Will Hall (Lead Guitar), Sam Austen (Bass Guitar and Clean Vocals), and James Last (Drums)
Entitled ‘The Death of A Rose’, the new album is a very natural progression from the band’s debut, with a matured approach to song-writing,
yet retaining the familiar trademarks of the band’s unique sound that got them noticed back in 2009.
The
Mixed, mastered and programmed by Sam Wale (Elimination, Imperial Vengeance, Orion), ‘THE DEATH OF A ROSE’ seamlessly intertwines crushing riffs
with dark and majestic acoustic passages that transcend the boundaries of Metal,
and features guest vocal performances by Elle Torry (The Meads of Asphodel, Worms of Sabnock, Imperial Vengeance)
and John Phipps (Korvus, Daniel Merrill & The Flowers of Evil).
THE DEATH OF A ROSE is out on July 11th 2011 and will be available to download and purchase physically at all major outlets, and also via http://www.witchkingrecords.bigcartel.com
