Female singers are a rarity in hardcore-related music; they are a
rarity in screamo/post-hardcore/melodic hardcore, and they are a rarity
in metalcore. But rare doesn't mean nonexistent. In This Moment's Maria Brink, for example, really soared when they combined metalcore and screamo elements on their promising debut album, Beautiful Tragedy.
And For the Suffering, a band from eastern New Mexico not far from the
Texas border, have a female lead singer on this ferocious
metalcore-oriented disc. Her name is Kierston Graham,
and most of the time she favors ultra-abrasive screaming vocals that
are every bit as vicious as what male metalcore vocalists have to
offer. Graham
occasionally gets in some clean vocals, and when that happens, she
favors the type of darkly angelic vocal style that is quite common
among female singers in goth metal and goth rock. It's quite a contrast
- harsh, mercilessly abrasive screaming most of the time, and angelic
vocals on occasion. However, this early-2009 release's heaven/hell
contrast would have been much more effective if Graham
had offered more clean vocals and fewer of the screaming vocals — in
other words, more time for «the beauty» and less time for «the beast.»
Some will compare For the Suffering's metalcore to Beautiful Tragedy, which was a lot more metalcore-minded than In This Moment's second album, The Dream (an excellent yet much more mainstream-sounding and pop-minded release). But quite frankly, Beautiful Tragedy
is considerably stronger than For the Suffering's album — which is
wildly uneven and misses the mark most of the time. Nonetheless, there
is some potential here. Graham's
ability to scream so viciously when she wants and sound angelic when
she wants is certainly a talent, and this band is at least worth
keeping an eye on.

Этот грайнд акт напомнил мне незабвенных Terrorizer с их ультра мега классик релизом World Downfall. Почему, спросите Вы ? так всё просто. Эти парни рубят мощнейший грайндкор так, словно это их последний альбом на этой Земле. Германия издавна славилась своими грайнд проектами. Взять хотя бы Blood. Да, кстати, в музыке этих ребят есть наряду с Terrorizer, ещё и не мелкие влияния Blood. Christbait лезет из всех щелей. Мои рекомендации. Оригинальность 9 брутальность 9

THEIR HEFTY GUITARS AND THE GERMAN LYRICS, AT THAT TIME MORE THAN UNUSUAL, WERE AHEAD OF THEIR TIME. Поляки порадовали. Давненько я не слышал ничего подобного. А поскольку этот релиз из ранних девяностых то моя душа принадлежит ему на все времена. Да просто я вырос на звучании девяностых. На зубодробительном треше, брутальном дезе и романтическом думе. Итак, команда играет дум дез. Но какой! Заслушаться можно. Умели же играть тогда. Cryptic Tales was founded in 1989 by Piotr Kopko (guitar, vocals) and Jaroslaw Maciuszek (drums). Then Dariusz Gibalewicz (guitar) and Witold Zawdzki (bass) joined the band. After two years of rehearsing the band decided to record their first demo tape «The Sign Of The Southern Cross» (1991). This tape was appreciated in Polish underground metal. In 1993 the first official record «Anathema» was released by Carnage Rec. At that time it was claimed by many reviewers to be one of the best and the most original death metal productions in Poland. On «Anathema» one could find fresh ideas such as various musical instruments being used. At that time the band did a lot of gigs, sharing stage with the biggest bands in Polish metal. In 1994 Cryptic Tales recorded their next mini album «Valley Of The Dolls» (Gamma/Croon Rec. 94), a controversial release, which, despite of some originalities like mixing brutal music with flute, was not acclaimed. After the realse of «Valley Of The Dolls» there was a line-up change. Witold Zawadzki left the band and Mateusz Bernardyn took his place. In 1996 another full length was created and entiteled «The Tales» (Croon Rec. 96)

A moment later «The Tales» is being remastered and rereleased by German Awaken Prod. After that Maciej Motyka exchanged Dariusz Gibalewicz on the guitar. After the release of The Tales, the band played many gigs mostly in Poland and Germany. «The Tales» made Cryptic Tales one of the biggest bands in doom-death metal genre. At high tide of their career the band unexpectedly stopped their job. Cryptic Tales was one of the most original and acclaimed bands in 90's Polish metal music. It was applauded by metal maniacs, appreciated by record labels and media. «Anathema» and «The Tales» are the pieces of music which can be given a cult status. After seven years of silence the band has begun to rehearse. The line-up has been: Piotr Kopko (guitar, vocals), Jaroslaw Maciuszek (drums), Mateusz Bernardyn (bass) and a newcomer Jacek Fall (guitar). The new material has been composed and the new style has been created. The effect of the band's hard work is entitled «VII Dogmata Of Mercy» (Empire Rec. 2008). In the meantime Bartlomiej Filipinski (keys) joined the band.
«VII Dogmata Of Mercy» is an acclaimed album, receiving roper feedback in
Polish media. It is also approved by fans so the first Cryptic Tales video; Towards Modern Darkness is produced (ZWELLINDER GROUP '08). Soon after the band decides to come back to the stage, supporting Samael in Cracow (Loch Ness' 09). In April 2009, an American label: CRASH MUSIC rereleases «VII Dogmata Of Mercy»

Диск записан в лучших традициях стиля грайдкор. Я бы сказал смесь из gore/grindcore вокальных партий, напоминающий свинячий визг и грайндкор музыки включая и олд скул (old school) грайндкор элементы и новые технические навороты. Песни перетекают одна в другую как масло на сковородке без всяких пауз чувствуешь не 19 треков а один 28 минутный опус. Тематика песен как полагается посвящена пост- апокалипсическим вещам – живым мертвецам и всевозможным катаклизмам ведущим к концу жизни человечества на Земле естественно умирающим в муках людям отводиться одна из главных ролей. Прикольные интро прилагаются. Что можно сказать под конец, покрутив альбом со всех сторон, я пришёл к выводу, что он КЛЕВЫЙ, а что на нём только 28 минут то этот факт вряд ли остановит истинного любителя грайндкора

Вы слышали старый Napalm Death 1987 года? так вот. альбом Nashgul — приграйндованый дез или придезованый грайнд все-таки, делающий реверанс в сторону этого альбома. Но три типа вокала заставляет забыть о напалмах. совершенно больной гроулинг скриминг, и дезовый вокал. Вот что отличает эту группу от собратьев по цеху. хотя этим сейчас практически никого не удивишь. но мне вкатило.

Как было указано в пресс-релизе — группа играющая анархо — дез метал — «не плохо» - подумал я перед прослушиванием, «дез нам нужен» но после прослушивания пришёл к выводу, что анархии здесь маловато если сказать другими словами её нет вообще. В целом команда играет дез метал, нарезая при этом куски мяса из разных стилей и разбавляя окровавленной мелодичностью. 4 трека напичканных олд скул элементами, техничными ходами и мелодичными партиями. Где-то в середине звучит соло гитара… следуя из всего выше сказанного трудно сказать какие ещё примеси будут на полноформатном альбоме, но я уверен что это будет дез метал

Это дез. брутальный дезнячок с брутальным вокалом. Команда оригинальна, поскольку для сравнения никто не приходит в голову. Хочется слушать ещё и ещё этот брутальный продукт. Да, я через чур много раз употребил слово «брутальный». Ну и что, - мне не жалко. Брутально !!!!

The cousins Andrea Lisi and Luca Zamberti (The Raven, Gardens of grief, Carnal Rapture) gave birth to MASS OBLITERATION in 2006 in Rome, with the aim of building a solid death metal beast, and looking for, since the very first rehearsals, a unique approach in what is to be considered “extreme”. The path they chose is made of honesty and true passion, no limits in experimenting how to push forward the deepest feelings of rage and obscurity this genre represents. In 2007 they record with Mariano Gallo on guitars their first self-produced ep “Abrahamithic Curse” and play many shows in Rome and around Italy. Then, in 2008, Giordano (Compulsion) is added to the line-up and they record with producer Stefano Morabito (Hour of penance, Vomit the soul, Fleshgod apocalypse) the second demo “Fratricide” and play many other shows in Italy. The band is working on a full-length to be released in 2010

Эта испанская группа чем то напоминает ранний avulsed с разными вкусными примесями. Музыку, которую играют «Глум»чане не трудно охарактеризовать так как на неё мало повлияли новомодные тенденции. Испанцы играют старый добрый “мрачный” death metal с примесями thrash метала и заметим, что делают это они на «отлично» вливая в музыку много своих идей. Поэтому death метал рубилово в среднем темпе (или как в боксе принято говорить “в среднем весе”) разбавлено мелодичными вставками, old school элементами и если очень прислушаться, то можно найти и black metal. Все эти фишки сделаны не выходя за стилистические рамки death метала, что меня очень радует. Так же радует тот факт, что альбом не надоедает после многих часов прослушивания.

GLOOM was born in 2002 as a group of friends from bands such as VIRULENCE or SURTUR without many pretensions and with the sole purpose of playing music that we love, Death Metal…

After an initial stage where the band made several concerts and recorded a demo, GLOOM broke in late 2005, for over a year, until early 2007, when James Surt (WOLFENCROSS) and Ayuso (UNSOULED), joined three of the original members (Bruto, Maiki and Fer) to get up the band again, this time with a more serious attitude, which resulted in the band's first full-length CD «Mater Tenebrarum».

The CD has been entirely self-produced and has 8 tracks of Death Metal, where the music matters more than speed and technique, because we believe in making songs, not exhibitions… We are currently presenting the CD and looking new sites and dates for play if possible, outside Madrid… we are also writing songs for a new job.

GLOOM se formó en el año 2002 como un grupo de amigos procedentes de bandas como VIRULENCE o SURTUR sin muchas pretensiones y con el único propósito de tocar una música que nos apasiona, Death Metal…

Tras una primera etapa en la que la banda dio algunos conciertos y grabó una demo, GLOOM se separó a finales del 2005, durante más de un año, hasta que a principios de 2007, James Surt (WOLFENCROSS) y Ayuso (UNSOULED) se unieron a tres de los miembros originales (Bruto, Maiki y Fer), para volver a retomar la banda, esta vez con una actitud más seria, que ha dado como resultado nuestro primer CD «Mater Tenebrarum».

El CD ha sido totalmente autoproducido, y contiene 8 temas de Death Metal, en los que las música importa más que la velocidad y la técnica, ya que somos partidarios de hacer canciones, no exhibiciones… actualmente nos encontramos presentando el CD en directo, y estamos buscando nuevos sitios y fechas para tocar a ser posible, fuera de Madrid… además de seguir componiendo temas para un próximo trabajo.

Чёрный венок - Это круто! Давно я не слушал качественного дум / дез метала. Звучание пропитанно девяностыми годами в голове сразу всплывают знакомые названия — My Dying Bride и Paramaecium. Во всех треках, в основном, присутствует один вокал — низкий тягучий гроулинг, но иногда встречается готический, меланхолический в духе like the gods of the sun (MDB). Очень порадовали партия скрипки и клавишные ала Disembowelment на первом треке «Чёрные дыры разума» , Ещё раз пробудившие во мне ностальгию по былым временам. На альбоме всего 4 композиции, если не брать во внимание последнюю инструментальную вещь, то все треки длятся более 10 минут каждый, что, на мой взгляд, очень не плохо.
 В заключении скажу, что погребальный костёр потерянных снов хорошо разгорелся на дровах девяностых годов, но датчане хорошо постарались, набросав в пламя много своих идей, поэтому дым от него веет не только ностальгиею, но и свежестью

Black Wreath was formed in Copenhagen, Denmark in the year of 2002 by Kim Larsen (Of The Wand & The Moon, The Loveless, Saturnus), Peter Mesnickow (Blazing Eternity) and Dave Müller (Chasing Eudaimonia) due to their common passion for heavy, depressive, monotonous doom metal.

However, it wasn’t until 2006 that the band found the time to create music and lyrics for their debut album “A Pyre of Lost Dreams”.

In july 2008, Black Wreath entered Soundscape Studios with engineer Louise Nipper to record the album, and the result was 4 tracks with a playing time of over 50 minutes of pure, bleak, desolate darkness.

The three epic songs “The Black Holes Of Your Mind”, “Nocturnal Dominion” and “Solitude Rising (Missing All Exits)” are all heavy, hypnotic journeys into the underworlds of death, solitude, depression, drugs, funerals and darkness, whereas album closer “Niddstäng ” is a very haunting atmospheric ambient piece. The songs however, does posses a big melodic touch thanks to the well-known signature sound of Kim Larsen. In general, a fine mixture of funeral doom, doom/death and more hypnotic, monotone soundscapes.

«A Pyre Of Lost Dreams» will be released on Head Not Found in October/November 2009.
