THE AGONIST - Interview With ALISSA WHITE-GLUZ

On September 2, Philippe Langelier conducted an interview with vocalist Alissa White-Gluz of Montreal, Quebec, Canada-based female-fronted melodic death metallers THE AGONIST.

THE AGONIST recently completed a North American tour with KAMELOT, ALESTORM and BLACKGUARD. Unfortunately, THE AGONIST lead guitarist Danny Marino was unable to join the band on this trek, and was replaced by ex-THE CATALYST guitarist Justin Deguire on rhythm guitar while Pascal "Paco" Jobin took over lead guitar duties.

For fans that have been patiently waiting for new material from THE AGONIST, this tour was the first opportunity to get their hands on the band's latest release. "The Escape" EP — featuring two songs from THE AGONIST's upcoming full-length album ("Lonely Solipsist" and "The Escape") — was being sold exclusively on the road and online at CM Distro for the duration of the tour. The only way to get your hands on a physical copy of this limited-edition EP was to catch the band on its run with KAMELOT or to order via CM Distro. The EP is also available in a digital format after the tour.

Mixed by Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, DARK TRANQUILLITY, SUICIDE SILENCE), THE AGONIST's new full-length album is slated for an early 2012 release via Century Media Records.

In a recent interview with MetalConcerts.net, Alissa White-Gluz stated about the musical direction of the follow-up to 2009's "Lullabies For A Dormant Mind", "I wouldn't say it's heavier or more melodic. I think it sounds more mature. It has the same sort of schizophrenic side that 'Lullabies' has, but it also has some other I guess what you would call classic influences. Like, there's some PANTERA influence, there's some RADIOHEAD influence. I mean, there's a lot of influences that we didn't really have before."

"Lullabies For A Dormant Mind" debuted at No. 105 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

ANNIHILATOR'S JEFF WATERS INTERVIEWED BY EPIPHONE

ANNIHILATOR'S JEFF WATERS INTERVIEWED BY EPIPHONE; VIDEO AVAILABLE
JEFF WATERS, guitarist and founding member of Canadian thrash metal pioneers
ANNIHILATOR, has been interviewed by guitar manufacturers Epiphone about his
illustrious career and his new Epiphone Annihilation-V signature model
guitar.

JEFF WATERS is widely recognised as one of the most influential metal
guitarists of all time, and was ranked third in Joel McIver's 2009 book,
"The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists".

Read part of the interview below for JEFF's tips on gear and playing:

EPI: Any advice for younger players trying to find their way?

JEFF: Listen to LOTS of guitar players in lots of styles of music. For young
musicians, practice the song Chemical Warfare by Slayer, Creeping Death and
anything off of Puppets/Kill 'Em All. That will get your rhythm hand fast
and tight. For solos, try to listen to as many metal guitar players as
possible... Listen to the '80s players to get more of an original influence.
The '80s were the time when the greats were producing brilliance! Also, on a
personal note, stay away from alcohol, drugs and cigarettes... If you want a
long career... Or a long life! These days, to have a career at all means
that you need to learn the business and take care of your business; you
cannot do this if you are cloudy in the mind or dying from lung disease.

EPI: Any advice on gear?

JEFF: Just have fun and try lots of things out at your local music store. As
far as amps... If you have some money, try the Hughes and Kettner Coreblade.
If you don¹t, there are a lot of good, lower-priced amps out there. I will
say though... My new Epiphone Annihilation-V is very reasonably priced. It
took me 2 years to design and create it with Epiphone because we wanted the
best guitar possible at an incredible value.

EPI: How close are the production models to what you play?

JEFF: The same guitars you can buy in the music store are the EXACT same
guitars I use live. No other company I know has done this, at this price
level.

EPI: 2 years is a long time developing the Jeff Waters Annihilation-V
Signature model. How do you think it came out?

JEFF: Fantastic! I could ramble on about how great the guitar is but I think
the best way to answer this is to simply see the video that is on the
Epiphone web site... That will speak for itself. You must see it to
understand what I mean!

'ANNIHILATOR' is the band's thirteenth studio album and features ten tracks
of heads-down, no-frills metal, including a cover of VAN HALEN's song,
"Romeo Delight". The album is due to be released in Europe by Earache
Records on 17th May.
