Artisan News recently spoke to Rob Halford (vocals) and Ian Hill (bass) of British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST about the band's newly released compilation album, "The Chosen Few", which came out on October 11 via Legacy/Sony. Check out the chat below. The collection contains songs that were selected by some of the biggest names of the hard rock/heavy metal world, including KISS' Gene Simmons, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, METALLICA's James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, Alice Cooper and SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor.
"This is a collection of songs chosen by our friends and respected peers," PRIEST frontman Rob Halford tells RollingStone.com. "So we hope all the metal maniacs out there will rock out to the tunes enjoyed by metal legends."
"The Chosen Few" will contain explanations from the artists about each of their selections, including Taylor making the argument that PRIEST's early MTV anthem "You've Got Another Thing Coming" established the group as "the blueprint for the ultimate heavy metal band."

Ozzy Osbourne on "The Ripper": "This has always been one of my favorite JUDAS PRIEST songs… I just want to know what the fuck that note is that Rob Halford hits in the beginning of the song. Fucking hell!! That note is probably just below what only dogs can hear."
Alice Cooper on "Living After Midnight": "For a metal band, PRIEST has always used tons of melody... when you have a singer as great as Rob Halford, you have to write great riffs WITH great melodies, you can’t just have riffs. 'Living After Midnight' is the perfect example…"

DRAGONLAND New Song Available
"Fire And Brimstone", a brand new song from Swedish power metallers DRAGONLAND, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The track comes off the band's new album, "Under The Grey Banner", which will be released on November 18 via AFM Records. The third part of the "Dragonland Chronicles" trilogy features musical actor Fred Johanson in the role of the antagonist, with all three singers from AMARANTHE — Elize Ryd, Jake E and Andy Solveström — also making appearances.

"We were more than thrilled when both Damian Bajwoski and Fred Johanson accepted to contribute to this album. To have the album fully illustrated with majestic scenes and vistas from the story, and to have such a powerful and convincing voice in the role of the antagonist will lend a lot of credibility and depth to the final project! Our singer friends from AMARANTHE also appear in minor roles, further developing the universe the story is set in.
"We really feel that our ambition to give our fantasy story a touch of depth, credibility and maturity paid off well! Lending influences from classical mythology, the best fantasy movies, video games and books, we feel that fans of the style who normally finds fantasy power metal to be too over the top and ridiculous could wholeheartedly enjoy this. We also have some further surprises for you before the actual album release, to keep your eyes open and your senses wary!"

Taking over bass duties is Anders Hammer (NIGHTRAGE) and sitting behind the drums is Morten Lowe Sorensen (THE ARCANE ORDER, SUBMISSION, AMARANTHE). Previous drummer Jesse Lindskog will handle second-guitar duties in the future.

NEMESEA - The Quiet Resistance
“There are times when you want to speak your mind and be brutally honest. That’s the quiet resistance within you,” says guitarist HJ of Nemesea, referring to the title of the band’s brand new album. The Dutch female- fronted band, famous for combining rock with electro, have fine-tuned this musical combination to perfection on their third album. The Quiet Resistance is a gem that reveals its many splendid colors more and more each time you press play.
According to HJ, The Quiet Resistance is a balanced mix of the first two albums, combining heavy riffs and symphonic musical landscapes with pop sensibilities and electronic influences. The former jazz guitar student wrote most of the new songs on guitar, piano, as well as on the computer. Singer Manda added the lyrics, which go beyond the usual gothic rock lingo and rehashed fairytales:
“Lyrics are very important. They can be comforting, but they can also shake things up. My lyrics are pieces of my life, personal experiences that I weave into little stories,” she explains. “One of the central themes on this album is being in control or losing it. If you want to change things in your life, you just have to go for it.”
The current line-up is a tight-knit unit comprising HJ, Manda, Sonny Onderwater (bass), Frank van der Star (drums), and Lasse Dellbrugge (keyboards). In addition to Manda’s amazing vocals, there are a few remarkable vocal guest performances on the new album, giving it an interesting vocal range and variety. Delain’s Charlotte Wessels lends her amazing voice to ‘High Enough’, while Marcus Klavan (vocals) and Matt Litwin (turntables) of American band Bulletproof Messenger contribute to the dynamic nu metal track ‘It’s Over’. One of the songs that stands out is the bonus track ‘Allein’, which features German singer Heli Reissenweber of the Rammstein cover band Stahlzeit. “This song turned out to have a Rammstein feel, so we decided to push it as far as we could with some German lyrics,” explains HJ.
Joost van den Broek, former keyboardist of After Forever, co-produced, mixed, and mastered “The Quiet Resistance”. The band forged a friendship with him when they toured with After Forever in the early stages of their career. According to HJ, his influence was pivotal: “We needed someone who could make our sound heavier. He connected all the dots and wrote all the symphonic arrangements together with our keyboardist Lasse. He gave us a very big and heavy sound, both in the production and in the mix.”
Nemesea was founded in 2002 by vocalist Manda Ophuis and guitarist Hendrik Jan (HJ) de Jong. The band signed a deal with a small Dutch label and released their debut album Mana in 2004. The album made the band an instant rising star on the musical horizon. Nemesea toured intensively and drew the attention of both fans and industry with great album reviews. In 2006, Nemesea signed with sellaband.com, a brand-new format for bands to record and release their music independently. Within a couple of months, the band won over many fans and was the first band worldwide to collect $ 50,000, allowing them to record and internationally release their second album, “In Control” (2007).
Their cooperation with Sellaband opened many international doors for the band. It enabled them to work with Tony Platt (AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Motorhead), who produced their second album, and sound engineer Ronald
Prent (Rammstein, HIM,Within Temptation). Nemesea was also the first band worldwide togive two special shows in OMNI-surround.
Although Sellaband regrettably no longer operates, the experience proved to be of great value to Nemesea. “Our time with Sellaband taught us that we have great fans all over the world. However, you need good distribution and promotion, as well, if you want to expose your music to as many people as possible.”
Despite the setbacks suffered, the band is more determined than ever to keep going. Opening track ‘Caught in the Middle’ makes that perfectly clear, as Manda explains:
“I wrote the lyrics when the future didn’t look very bright for us. When the Sellaband house of cards crumbled, we wondered about Nemesea’s future. But our message now is: whatever happens, we will carry on.”
The Quiet Resistance will be released in November 2011 on Napalm Records.

In regards to this behind-the-scenes video clip, guitarist John Laux comments, "We are very excited about the latest and greatest official WARBRINGER promo video clip! We had a great experience working with director Dave Vorhes and his team. They used a number of DIY style tricks to create a very unique and professional environment for the 'Shattered Like Glass' video. We had a blast using smoke and mirrors to escape the trappings of another metal warehouse video. The aim is to have a very dark, horror movie kind of feel in this video. We're looking forward to seeing the finished edited clip, which will be out before our new album is released Sept. 26th."

ICED EARTH will embark on a massive European tour from the end of October until mid-December to introduce “Dystopia” and their new singer Stu Block to European audiences. Also, this week saw ICED EARTH announce their support acts for the European tour: FURY UK and WHITE WIZZARD. Jon Schaffer states: “I’m really looking forward to touring with these guys. Both bands bring a lot of energy to the table. "Ten dastardly tales of intrigue, phantasm and Derring-do”
September 23rd 2011, the Autumnal Equinox, heralds the release of Black Heart of Empire - the second full length album by Imperial Vengeance; and sees the gentlemen retreat from the horrors of war that dominated their debut, and raise the curtain on ten new absinthe-soaked compositions, played - for the most part- against the sinister backdrop of 19th Century London.
The duo describe the new work as “Ten dastardly tales of intrigue, phantasm and Derring-do”.
Beginning with a four part song cycle entitled 'The Gaslight Aria', the album proceeds through a collection of narratives that present a singularly dark vision. The resulting journey is a breathtakingly complex opiated haze of inspired guitar riffing and dramatic orchestration, awash with neo-Victorian aesthetics and containing no less than one hour of quintessentially British Metal.
The disc will be released in tandem with a 42-page 'Penny Dreadful' style booklet, which amongst the assorted simulacra and ephemera contains extracts of the orchestral score, photo galleries, Victorian horror and extensive insight by C. Edward Alexander and David Bryan into the background and composition behind the album.
Adding to this nightmarish tapestry of foreboding Doréan atmosphere are guest appearances:
- from Therion soprano Lori Lewis and Vulture Industries vocalist, Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen:
"We needed a voice to represent a very specific character for the track 'Upon the Stair'. It needed to come from outside the band, and needed to be other-worldly and insane.
Bjornar is all these things and more, and took the song to a new level of intangible weirdness".

- with additional spoken word from author/former gangster Dave Courtney. Dave Courtney has provided what Imperial Vengeance describe as "the voice of Old London". The band spent the day at Dave's home Castle Camelot where they recorded passages for the album. C Edward Alexander said:
"there was no better voice to represent the heart of Old London. He's the real thing, and IV always strives for authenticity and eccentricity. Despite his fearsome reputation, it's the second time we've been to visit him, and he and his family have always been very welcoming."
The album was recorded St Mary’s Fields Studios in Colchester, engineered and mixed by C Edward Alexander, and mastered by acclaimed producer Russ Russell (Dimmu Borgir, Napalm Death, Samael) at Parlour Studios, Kettering:
"We were thrilled to have Russ add his stamp of quality to the album, especially since he has an inherent understanding of the insanity we are creating. We hope to involve him even more deeply in future releases."
Black Heart of Empire will be released digitally and on CD by the Transcend Music Group and distributed world-wide through Universal.

Sweden’s INEVITABLE END has posted a brand new track “While Surpassing Ether” off their forthcoming album The Oculus online now at the Decibel Magazine blog. The band has previously posted the track “Memento” via the INEVITABLE END Facebook and MySpace pages and “Of Sublime Dimensions” at Lambogat.com. The Oculus was recorded at HoBoRec Studio in Huskvarna, Sweden with producer Ulf Blomberg and is set for a May 24th North American release date. Playing Melodic Hard Rock with Metal influences and Spanish lyrics, the band PIEL DE SERPIENTE from Valencia is back with their third album "Inevitable". Being around for 7 years now this album is their debut on Pure Rock Records. Before this they released two discs "Encenderé Tu Fuego" (2005) and "El Veneno Se Extiende" (2008), which appeared only as a self-release and through Karthago Records. Musically sometimes - because of the catchy double leads and a bass-sound in best Steve Harris-mania - a little bit influenced by Iron Maiden, a total of eleven beautifully dry produced unique songs are offered. Among them: a small loving tribute to the never forgotten Ronnie James Dio ("Ronnie James (Un Arcoiris En La Oscuridad)") and also as last work an English song ("Sons Of The Night"). With "La Marea Del Ayer" the five musicians prove, that this band is also possible to play more quiet tones, which generally accompanies the diversity of the Spanish group. Although the language may sound a bit unusual for some listeners at first sight, almost all, very clean played pieces of “Inevitable” will catch you latest after second or third listening! PIEL DE SERPIENTE proves impressively, that Hard Rock, played with heart and soul, must have
English lyrics to work!

The term 2KX entered the urban dictionary as the popular
abbreviation for the year 2010. For DyNAbyte 2010 was the
year of the goal! 2KX album had a long gestation: composed
between 2007 and 2008, recorded and mixed along 2009 and
2010, “2KX” is the perfect expression of the “DyNAbyte
creature”, born from the human seed and contaminated by
dynamite and technology. “2KX” follows, after six years
of silence, the debut album “Extreme Mental Piercing”,
after which the band took a break to decompress. “2KX”,
entirely produced, arranged, engineered and mastered by
DyNAbyte, is the reasoned outcome of more than three years
of work, purely dedicated to music.
“2KX” was released by the band itself on 10/10/10 on an
exclusive USB stick, containing the HQ tracks in wav and mp3

abbreviation for the year 2010. For DyNAbyte 2010 was the
year of the goal! 2KX album had a long gestation: composed
between 2007 and 2008, recorded and mixed along 2009 and
2010, “2KX” is the perfect expression of the “DyNAbyte
creature”, born from the human seed and contaminated by
dynamite and technology. “2KX” follows, after six years
of silence, the debut album “Extreme Mental Piercing”,
after which the band took a break to decompress. “2KX”,
entirely produced, arranged, engineered and mastered by
DyNAbyte, is the reasoned outcome of more than three years
of work, purely dedicated to music.
“2KX” was released by the band itself on 10/10/10 on an
exclusive USB stick, containing the HQ tracks in wav and mp3
format, unreleased band pictures and wallpapers and a
special Digital Booklet Flash animation, expressly created
by Cadaveria.

Facts
There could actually not have been a better title for this album than “Re – forged”. Bandleader Michael Vaucher had to face the loss of his long time partner in crime Jvo Julmy, who dominated and defined the EMERALD sound with his high pitched, slightly fragile and highly charismatic voice over the years. Thomas Winkler, his successor, has to accept a heavy inheritance, though he holds the ground and withstands with his powerful metal voice all uprising hassles. Since Jvo also took on the 2nd guitar, the new man for this is Manuel Werro. In the field of songwriting, Michael Vaucher still keeps the reins and so there will be nothing but pure EMERALD metal to worship on this, their fifth album, which marks a new beginning on the other hand with the newly structured band. It is their heaviest album so far with the most wicked and unleashed guitar duels, the chunkiest riffs and most forceful rhythms to date, on which the majestic and determined sounding voice of Thomas Winkler rides like a knight in the middle of a giant battle. With Sean Peck (CAGE) and Mike Sifringer(DESTRUCTION) additionally 2 well-known guest musicians are on board. “Re – forged” unites creativity, passion for the music and great fun playing heavy metal, which you can hear from every note this band plays. It takes EMERALD to a new level. This is a step that should certainly convince most and silence the poor rest of the critics and lead into a bright future.

Swedish heavy metal sensations ENFORCER have revealed the cover art for their new album, DIAMONDS, due to be released in Europe by Earache Records on May 24th and the rest of the world by Heavy Artillery Records on May 25th.

ENFORCER singer OLOF WIKSTRAND comments:
“Diamonds in some way refers to that we’re seeing things in a little bigger perspective, or at least we think we do, haha. To me the word sounds majestic in some strange way, and that’s what I like about it too.
“It was a bit dared, but also very natural for us to put ourselves on the cover. That was actually the first thing we greed on concerning the artwork. The idea with us holding the diamond just came to us when we put one and two together.”

Italian Horror Metal band CADAVERIA have entered the studio to begin recording their new album
Italian Horror Metal band CADAVERIA have entered the studio to begin recording their new album. After 
their live dates in Mexico at the end of June, CADAVERIA spent the second half of 2009 in the rehearsal room to complete the songwriting for their fourth full-length.
The as yet untitled album will contain eleven tracks and will be released in late 2010.
In January 2009 CADAVERIA had announced the addition of Dick Laurent as second guitar. The new member's touch is clearly perceivable in the new compositions, that the singer Cadaveria defines as «heavy, obscure and insane» (http://blogs.myspace.com/cadaveriaband).
Cadaveria recently made a guest appearance on Italian Death metallers Mechanical God Creation's new CD, performing backing vocals on the song «I Shall Remain Unforgiven».
During the last two years Cadaveria (herself) worked concurrently on the project DyNAbyte (http://www.dynabyte.it/). The Industrial Metal act has just finished mastering their new record, that will be unleashed in June
2010.

Swedish heavy metal band ENFORCER have announced their partnership with Earache Records in the UK and Europe for their forthcoming album Diamonds', out May 24th.
ENFORCER's charismatic singer Olof Wikstrand states:
«After the great success of 'Into The Night' we now take things a few steps further with the next album. This time It feels great to have a European dedicated and hard working label on board. I'm really excited to see what this end up like and I'm also proud of being a part of Earache.»

NWOBHM and cult Swedish demos, ENFORCER are truly a metal powerhouse.

anticipated sophomore album, 'Diamonds', to be released in Europe by Earache
