ORPHANED LAND will support METALLICA on May 22, 2010

Israeli progressive folk metal masters ORPHANED LAND will support METALLICA on May 22, 2010 at the Ramat Gan stadium in Tel Aviv.

Israeli fans of METALLICA recently reached an agreement with the promoter of the band’s upcoming show in Tel Aviv to get ticket prices for the gig significantly dropped. A growing number of fans were planning to boycott the concert after learning that the cheapest tickets for the show were going for 600 shekel, or around $159 U.S. According to the creators of a Facebook page dedicated to the boycott, tickets for METALLICA shows around the world were much less, while top tickets by other acts coming to Israel went for around $66.

As of March 3, an agreement was apparently reached between fans and the promoter, with a proposal on the table that tickets should range from a low of $80 to a high of $160.

Fans Tomer Mussman and Rotem Horovitz wrote, “After a four-day campaign, tons of news items about us worldwide, over 6,000 supporters and numerous media interviews, we can say that we did it! We won! This afternoon, (we) met with Mr. Gad Oron, the promoter’s representative, and reached an agreement about a significant drop in ticket prices.”

Mussman and Horovitz added, “We would like to personally thank METALLICA and their management for directly helping us with reaching our goal and reducing the prices . . . We are officially asking each and every one of you to stop the boycott, and come and enjoy METALLICA’s concert with us on May 22.”

The show in Tel Aviv will mark METALLICA’s third visit to Israel, with its last one coming in 1999.

DREAMKILLERS will release a new EP, Pockets of Water, on May 7

Brisbane thrash-punk stalwarts DREAMKILLERS will release a new EP, "Pockets of Water", on May 7 in Australia and New Zealand, distributed by MGM. It will also be available for download through iTunes on said date.

"Pockets of Water" was recorded at Blackbox Studios with acclaimed producer Jeff Lovejoy (POWDERFINGER, THE CRUEL SEA), who has been instrumental in the production of earlier DREAMKILLERS recordings. Mastering duties took place at Modern Mastering by Dave Neil. According to a press relase, "While there's plenty of fast, metallic clout, there is also plenty of melodic phrases, and of course the poetry of frontman Jobson cannot be described in words. Make no mistake, this is punk with a purpose — with all its danger intact... no fashion-driven 'nu-core' here!"

The "Pockets of Water" CD launch party will be held on Saturday, May 8 at The Hi-Fi in Brisbane, with special guests LYNCHMADA, PUNXIE AND THE POISON PENS and MAGNERTRON. The CD, which will be in a very colourful digipack format, will be available at the show, as will new merchandise. The show will also be filmed for footage for an impending filmclip, and there's a few other surprises in store.

DREAMKILLERS' last full-length album of original songs, "Character Building Helltrip", was released 12 years ago through Roadrunner Records. This album also marked the end of an era for that particular lineup, at least on the studio front.

Aniruddh "Andrew" Bansal of Metal Assault conducted an interview with guitarist Oscar Dronjak

Aniruddh "Andrew" Bansal of Metal Assault conducted an interview with guitarist Oscar Dronjak of Swedish melodic metallers HAMMERFALL on March 27, 2010 at the House Of Blues in Hollywood, California. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Metal Assault: The guitars on the latest album were tuned down one whole step. What was the reason and how did it impact Joacim's [Cans] vocals?

Oscar: We did start out with the standard tuning and dropped half step and continued like that on to the new album where we dropped another half step. It has helped him and I think he feels more secure with the vocals. Even if it's just half a step, it makes a difference. Plus the guitars get heavier and I have no problem with that (laughs). So it all works out.

Metal Assault: What difference has the new lineup [with Pontus Norgren on guitar and Fredrik Larsson on bass] made to the new album?

Oscar: If you just start with the fact that we have two new members in the band, before songs were written and before any rehearsals were done or anything like that, just the fact that we have two new guys it's like an adrenaline injection. To be honest, we had done things the same way for far too long without realizing it. People were kind of tired of going through the motions of recording, touring and writing songs. So this was a good shake-up for us. First we got Fredrik who is my best friend in the whole world. It's fantastic to play with him again. I played with him before when he was in our band for the first time. Having him back is unbelievably cool. He's a much better bass player with Anders [Johansson, drums] because he plays together with him and creates the rhythm, the foundation of what the guitars and the vocals build upon. These details are important and make a difference to me, especially when you are playing live. Pontus is a fantastic guitar player. I'm not taking anything away from Stefan. He was great too, but Pontus is more versatile than Stefan [Elmgren] was which makes it easier. When we write songs, I know that Pontus can do all kinds of different things. On this new album, there is a lot more space for the solos this time and it was intentional. I try to play some solos whenever I can, I'm not that great at it (laughs) but I can do some melodies. I'm like K.K. Downing of JUDAS PRIEST and he's obviously like Glenn [Tipton]. But, that was the sort of way this album was going to be. It was a good way to introduce him. I think we've been lacking in the solo parts. Not that they were bad, but they weren't long enough before. This has nothing to do with Stefan. We just came to a realization that Pontus is a really versatile guitar player. We could have done that with Stefan too but we just never thought about it. Plus the experience of Pontus as a producer and in sound engineering on the tour has been invaluable.

Metal Assault: HAMMERFALL has traditionally done really well in Sweden and other European countries. How much do you think you've progressed here in North America?

Oscar: I don't know about sales and I think they basically still suck. We've done three weeks on this tour and the thing I'm most happy with and the most surprised with, is that at most of the shows the first few rows are filled with teenagers. I didn't see this last time. So that gives me a lot of hope for the future. It was like that in Sweden and Europe too. We started played for people mostly of our age, which was about 25 in those days. Then we started seeing lot more younger people and all of a sudden there is this new metal generation. So this gives me a lot of hope and I hope we can come back again. The way I see it is, we do this tour now which is like ground work, we come back soon for the next time and if there are not many people at the shows then I don't think we are going to tour here anymore. This is the last try. We are a band and everybody has their say, but if I had my way I would like to come back and do it again soon so we can know if this actually worked. Everybody always tells you that in the States you have to keep touring all the time. We never did that. We did 98, 2002, 2005 and now 2010. So four tours in 13 years is not a lot.

Metal Assault: You've had the same label [Nuclear Blast] but three producers through your career. What did each producer bring to you as input?

Oscar: The first producer we had was Fredrik Nordström. He was a friend of mine from before. Both Fredrik and I recorded albums with him before HAMMERFALL. The two HAMMERFALL albums were perfect with him. He is really good at certain things but we felt that we wanted to change the scenery and bring something fresh. Then we decided to do it with Michael Wagener. ACCEPT have been one of our biggest influences and he has done several ACCEPT albums. So it was a great thing and a great experience to be with him. "Renegade" is the best-selling album that we have so obviously he did something right. We had a great eight weeks over there in Nashville. His studio is on the ranch of ACCEPT guitar player Wolf Hoffmann, so for me back then I was star struck! It was like the first time I met Udo [Dirkschneider]. I didn't dare to say anything. I just walked there and looked at him to see if it was even true. Then we found Charlie [Bauerfeind], the producer we've had on the last four albums. I think with the direction we were going in, when we started writing songs for "Crimson Thunder", he was the right man for the job. We have evolved the relationship with him and the working structure is really good now. We're just starting talks about recording a new album. I mean, it's going to be next year or something but we still have to plan it ahead of time. He understands what we want to get out of the music and that's really important too. I've never had any bad experiences with him. I hear about producers who come in and tell people, "Hey this is what I want," and then go out. Charlie is a workhorse. He gets in the studio before everybody else and leaves later than everyone. He works 12 to 14 hours everyday. We have every other weekend off but he does it every day. There is no way I could do that so hats off to him!

Guitarist Stefan Weinerhall of the Swedish metal band FALCONERhas issued the following update

"Still alive and kicking!

"Yet another rare update for all who wonder if we've split up, taken a year off or just forgot the [band's official] website.

"Between jobs, diapers, TV-shows, Friday beers and good ol' apathy we rehearse a song or two. Slowly the new stuff is taking shape but we have no stress, half the new album is written.

"Recording time for the forthcoming album is October.

"Previously I said that it will have a slightly new direction, or rather new approach. Hint No. 2: The Germans will probably like it more than the Americans."

"Carnival Of Disgust", the latest video from FALCONER, can be viewed below. The clip, which was shot at the medieval Vadstena castle on a windy and cold April day, "exceeds [all] expectations," according to a press release. The song comes off the band's most recent album, "Among Beggars And Thieves", which was released in August 2008 via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at Andy La Rocque's (KING DIAMOND) Sonic Train Studio in Varberg, Sweden. 13 songs were mixed during the sessions, including two bonus tracks for the LP's first edition.

FALCONER in 2007 extended its deal with Metal Blade for another four albums.

THE FUNERAL PYRE has completed work on its new album Vultures At Dawn

Los Angeles-based black metal band THE FUNERAL PYRE has completed work on its new album, "Vultures At Dawn", for a late spring release via Prosthetic Records. The follow-up to 2008's "Wounds" was recorded by Adam Campbell at Awkward Studios, mixed by Ryan Butler (LANDMINE MARATHON, MISERY INDEX, PHOBIA) at Arcane Digital and mastered by Dave Shirk (INCANTATION, NILE, TODAY IS THE DAY) of Sonorous Mastering. Artwork for the album is being handled by Justin Barlett, known for his work with bands such as TRAP THEM, INTRONAUT and SUNN0))).

The band commented on the sound of the new record: "On this record we stepped out of our comfort zone and tried to create better songs, never focusing on what style of metal it actually is. Just writing the songs was most important to us."

No strangers to the DIY metal circuit, having multiple U.S. tours under their belt, THE FUNERAL PYRE has a run of dates next week on the West Coast; two with EARLY GRAVES and four with LIGHT THIS CITY on their farewell run. The band also just completed a batch of dates to Texas and back with LANDMINE MARATHON, which included Prosthetic's South By Southwest showcase on March 17 in Austin and a Brooklyn Vegan SXSW day party at Hoek's Death Metal Pizza.

HELLOWEEN's 25th-anniversary album is available for streaming in its entirety at AOL Music.

HELLOWEEN's 25th-anniversary album, "Unarmed - Best Of 25th Anniversary", is available for streaming in its entirety at AOL Music. http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/#/10

"Unarmed - Best Of 25th Anniversary" will be released in North America on March 30 via The End Records, under exclusive license from Sony Music Entertainment Germany.

"Unarmed - Best Of 25th Anniversary" was made available in Europe on January 29. The artwork, which can be viewed below, was once again created by Martin Haeusler, who had previously worked with HELLOWEEN on the "The Legacy" and the "Gambling With The Devil" releases.

"Unarmed" was released in a limited-edition version with a very special digipack, including a 30-minute making-of DVD, containing interviews and studio footage. It was also made available as a double vinyl.

The band says, "'Unarmed - Best Of 25th Anniversary' is a big 'thank-you' to all our fans, old and new, all over the world! Instead of putting together a regular greatest-hits compilation featuring our most successful tracks to celebrate this anniversary, we completely rearranged and re-recorded the greatest songs and melodies of our career. Together with our tried and tested producer, Charlie Bauerfeind, we invited many great musicians to guest on this special record, with the doubtless highlight of having the 70-piece Prague Symphonic Orchestra performing 'The Keeper's Trilogy', a 17-minute medley consisting of the songs 'Halloween', 'Keeper Of The Seven Keys' and 'The King for A 1000 Years' — goose bumps guaranteed!

"We aren't one of those bands who like to celebrate themselves, we just want to say 'thank you' in our own special way to all of you who have followed us through the past 25 years. To us, this album stands for an official celebration.

"It was a big challenge and great experience and we had a lot of fun recording our most important tracks in an entirely new 'outfit' and with new arrangements. We hope you like them!

"Unarmed - Best Of 25th Anniversary" track listing:

01. Dr. Stein
02. Future World
03. If I Could Fly
04. Where The Rain Grows
05. The Keeper's Trilogy
06. Eagle Fly Free
07. Perfect Gentleman
08. Forever & One
09. I Want Out
10. Falling To Pieces
11. A Tale That Wasn't Right

HELLOWEEN's video for the new version of the band's German Top 10 single "Dr. Stein" can be viewed below. The clip was shot with Oliver Sommer from AVA Studios and is described in a press release as "a comical video where the guys don't take themselves too serious and intentionally present the band in a very self-ironic way!"

WARBEAST will release its debut album, "Krush The Enemy", on April 27

WARBEAST (formerly TEXAS METAL ALLIANCE), the band featuring RIGOR MORTIS vocalist Bruce Corbitt, GAMMACIDE guitarists Rick Perry and Scott Shelby, GAMMACIDE/DEVILFIST bassist Alan Bovee and DEMONSEED drummer Joe Gonzalez, will release its debut album, "Krush The Enemy", on April 27 via Philip Anselmo's (DOWN, PANTERA) Housecore Records. The record features ten tracks covering a wide range of metal terrain aimed squarely at the neck-snapping headbanger in the front row.

"Krush The Enemy" track listing:

01. Krush The Enemy
02. Unleashed
03. Self Will Run Riot
04. The Plague At Hand
05. Blackened Heart
06. Scorched Earth Policy
07. Guardian Angel
08. The Controller
09. Stalker
10. We Are The Vultures

Check out audio samples of all ten tracks at this location.

Not only does Anselmo run the label that WARBEAST's debut album is being he released on, he produced the record as well. Corbitt had the following to say about signing to Housecore Records and working with Philip on the production of the album: "WARBEAST is proud to be signed with Housecore Records. I like the fact that their expectations are high for what they want out of a band. They also have a way of creating this family vibe between the band and the label while making it obvious that they believe in us. That is all the motivation we need to want to kick some ass for their label at all times.

"We wanted Philip to be our producer and to be involved in the creation of this album. Overall… Philip made it a very beneficial, but also a fun and memorable experience. Philip made this album even better… and that is what a producer is supposed to do."

A CD-release show will take place on May 8 at Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth, Texas. WARBEAST will be joined by a "surprise special guest" during the concert, which will also include additional appearances by HELL GOAT, MITRA, BLOOD STAIN CARPET and TURBID NORTH.

Anselmo previously stated about WARBEAST, "For myself, WARBEAST epitomizes 'the DFW [Dallas/Ft. Worth] thrash metal' sound to its maximum.

"Having grown up seeing RIGOR MORTIS and GAMMACIDE live, collecting their demos and knowing the guys in these bands during my younger, more impressionable years left a resounding imprint on me.

"People know that I was born in New Orleans, but I moved to the DFW area to join PANTERA when I was 17, so I had the privilege of being a part of, and living somewhat vicariously through both local scenes. And the magic of that was how different sounding both scenes were, and how absolutely awesome it was to watch the emergence of the two of them. Having the best of those two extreme worlds not only influenced me as a musician, but it made me fan of both scenes, for life!

"When I listen to modern-day thrash, after two or three songs, I pretty much know what I'm getting thereafter. There's no way in hell ANYONE can say that about WARBEAST. No fucking way. Without bowing down to the doldrums of an obvious 'technical metal' band nor to today's EXODUS worship, every song is its own SONG; riff-delirium, thunderous cadences and classic thrash vocals delivered in TRUE, classic thrash style.

"WARBEAST are a great band… and will prove to be major players in the very near future…you can bet your ass on that."

1349 Comment on Recording New Album and Working with Tom G. Warrior

1349 Comment on Recording New Album and Working with Tom G. Warrior
North American Pre-order and New Myspace Layout Launched

Norway's 1349's upcoming fifth full length, "Demonoir," due out April 27th in North America via Prosthetic Records, was recorded at Studio Nyhagen, deep in the woods in Norway with Tom G. Warrior (Hellhammer, Celtic Frost), who showed the greatest respect for the task and played a key role as motivator and catalyst. His technical role of the recording was that of a co-producer, but far more important was his presence and understanding of what a challenging project DEMONOIR was.
Ravn Comments:
"In hindsight, it is our belief that Tom was the missing piece of the puzzle, adding that element of heritage we needed. He represented the direct link to the Creators! We also need to mention three other contributors; Ronnie leTekrЖ - one of the most acclaimed guitarists on the globe, wrenched his soul inside out as he recorded one of the leads for "Psalm 7:77"; a truly breathtaking experience. We had some excellent, wicked grand piano play carried out by Canadian pianist Tony Caputo. And then there was ThorbjЬrn Benjaminsen of Hornorkesteret that recorded some spine chilling themes with his stringed reindeer horns, adding a touch of natural grimness to the electric inferno."
Prosthetic Records has launched the pre-order for the North American versions of the album; a digipack CD and a limited edition (only 666 made) 12" picture disc LP. The CD and LP can be purchased individually or together, or in a bundle with a T shirt. Pre-order yours now at THE PROSTHETIC WEBSTORE.

Please check out the brand new design on 1349`s Myspace profile. It looks grimmer than ever before.
There you also will find the track "Atomic Chapel" from the upcoming album "Demonoir". http://www.myspace.com/1349official

The band will be hitting the US in April and May in support of Cannibal Corpse, along with new label-mates Skeletonwitch and Lecherous Nocturne. The dates are:
4/20 Firestone- Orlando, FL #
4/21 Masquerade- Atlanta, GA #
4/22 Volume 11 Tavern- Raleigh, NC #
4/23 JAXX- Springfield, VA #
4/24 Palladium (Metal Fest)- Worcester, MA #
4/25 Crazy Donkey- Long Island, NY #
4/27 Club Soda- Montreal, QC #
4/28 Opera House- Toronto, OB #
4/29 House of Blues- Chicago, IL #
4/30 Eagles Club- Milwaukee, WI #
5/1 Station 4- St. Paul, MN #
5/2 Granada Theater- Lawrence, KS #
5/3 Gothic Theatre- Denver, CO #
5/5 Slim's- San Francisco, CA #
5/6 House Of Blues- Los Angeles, CA#
w/ Cannibal Corpse, Skeletonwitch, Lecherous Nocturne

"Demonoir" is without a shadow of a doubt 1349's darkest, most sinister and brutal work to date, and in this case it comes to mean that the band has gone from the utterly extreme to the genre-expanding and mindboggling. Black Metal cannot, and will never be the same.

For "Demonoir," 1349 decided to suck out the fiercest and most potent energies from every single member and surroundings, channeling it into songs that are pulsating with uncanny atmospheres, rawness and nerve shattering intensity. The whole process of getting the material on record was like one long, exhausting black magic summoning that could not be allowed to go wrong.

J. Bennett of Decibel magazine recently conducted an interview with TRIPTYKON singer and guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior

J. Bennett of Decibel magazine recently conducted an interview with former HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST and current TRIPTYKON singer and guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Decibel: In some of the early TRIPTYKON-related postings, one gets the sense that you harbor a certain amount of resentment towards [former CELTIC FROST bassist] Martin [Ain]. Is that the case?

Tom Gabriel Warrior: Well, I harbor a huge amount of animosity towards CELTIC FROST's final drummer [Franco Sesa]. What I feel for Martin is a huge sense of disappointment that he would forsake something so sacred to us like CELTIC FROST — something that basically represents the work of our lives and the sum of our friendship, a friendship that has existed since Martin was about 15. I'm four years older, and that friendship endured for 25 years, so that he would let that go down the drain disappoints me. But there's no animosity towards Martin on my side — just a tremendous sense of disappointment.

Decibel: So, what happened, exactly? He just didn't want to continue with the band?

Tom Gabriel Warrior: Everything connected to CELTIC FROST is very complex, and it's difficult to explain in the few lines you get in an interview. So, nothing I can say right now will do the actual situation justice, but there were several personal problems. Most of all, I could no longer tolerate the utterly egotistical megalomaniac behavior by the final drummer. All of this would have been no problem if Martin and I had stuck together. Martin himself, at the very end, said, "If you and I would have spoken with one voice, he could have never done all this." And I couldn't have said it any better. But the thing was that Martin was utterly burned out by touring, by creating albums for years, by personal misbehavior, so when I really needed him, he was nowhere to be seen. By his silence, he agreed to the demise of CELTIC FROST. That's possibly the easiest way I can explain it, but this is a process that took place over a period of years.

Decibel: On your blog, you mention that you and Martin signed an agreement in 2005 that neither of you would continue CELTIC FROST without the other. You also say that much of the music on the TRIPTYKON album was originally intended for the follow-up to "Monotheist". That being the case, to what extent is TRIPTYKON just CELTIC FROST without Martin?

Tom Gabriel Warrior: That's exactly what it is — absolutely. You have to understand, there's two levels in a band. There's the musical and artistic level, and then there's the personal level. And as far as the musical level was concerned, I was one hundred percent happy and fulfilled in CELTIC FROST. I was very happy that we reformed the band; I was extremely happy that we focused so much on making "Monotheist" an extraordinary album — that we didn't just shoot out the album for a check from the record company, but instead took five and a half years of endless songwriting and production to make sure the album really was CELTIC FROST the way we see it. We didn't let ourselves be affected by management or record-company deadlines or whatever you have in the industry. So, I don't see a single reason why I should interrupt that artistic flow. I wanted to make many more albums with CELTIC FROST, and that's essentially what I'm doing. Some of the material for the TRIPTYKON album was written when CELTIC FROST still existed. Some of the other material was written afterwards, but it's me, and I know how I write, and I wouldn't have written any differently if I had been in CELTIC FROST. To me, this is the new CELTIC FROST album with a different rhythm section, basically.

Decibel: And none of the material was co-written with Martin?

Tom Gabriel Warrior: No. Martin to me was very important as a songwriting partner in CELTIC FROST, but as everybody knows who reads the credits, he wrote about 50 percent of the lyrics, but very little actual music. What was important to me was the chemistry and the chance to discuss every little detail in CELTIC FROST. In this way, he shaped a lot of the things in CELTIC FROST, but he was not a direct songwriter. His biggest contributions as a musical songwriter were on "Monotheist", some 24 years into CELTIC FROST's career. I've been the main songwriter, and in TRIPTYKON I suppose I will continue to be that.

Decibel: Just one more Martin question, and then I promise we'll move on…

Tom Gabriel Warrior: [Laughs] Look, I'm a fan, too. Ever since I was a child, I've been a heavy metal fan and there have been bands that were very important to me and things happened behind the scenes that left me puzzled, so I myself — as a reader of magazines — always wanted to know what happened. If a band is important to you, you're curious about these things, so I totally understand.

Decibel: How do you feel Martin's absence in TRIPTYKON, then?

Tom Gabriel Warrior: Well, I'm speaking totally honest with you here. This is one of the first interviews I've given for the new album, so I'm still in the mood to be honest. I'm probably gonna lose that willingness soon [laughs], but I can tell you that when CELTIC FROST fell apart, I was very intimidated about starting a new band. I hadn't been writing music without Martin for many, many years, and I myself was very curious how his absence would affect my songwriting. Being intimidated changed while I was working on the TRIPTYKON album, and nobody was more puzzled by that than me. But I felt liberated because in CELTIC FROST, every song I would bring into rehearsal would be dissected and rearranged and discussed over and over again and at the very end, they would arrive at what I had brought in originally. Maybe that's a constructive process in a democratic band, but for me it was extremely tiring and it really hindered my songwriting contributions. It became a drag to bring in new material, and that's why "Monotheist" took five and a half years to complete. Writing for TRIPTYKON, I felt mentally liberated because the songs ended up being exactly the same as how I wrote them.

Decibel's entire interview with Tom Gabriel Warrior an be found in the magazine's May 2010 issue, which will be available in stores at the end of this week. In the meantime, you can order a copy at http://www.blabbermouth.net/

Lords Of War, the new video from Providence, Rhode Island progressive metallic hardcore ragers THE EMPIRE SHALL FAL

"Lords Of War", the new video from Providence, Rhode Island progressive metallic hardcore ragers THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL — who feature in their ranks former KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and SEEMLESS frontman Jesse Leach — can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's recently released debut album, "Awaken".

According to a press release, THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL's sound is rooted in metal/hardcore, citing luminaries AT THE GATES, MESHUGGAH, and EDGE OF SANITY as major inspirations. However, "Awaken" also draws heavily upon the band members' combined interests in jazz, punk, and experimental music to create a compelling blend of melody, brutality, and sheer determination that is impossible to pin down and sure to intrigue fans of REFUSED, AT THE DRIVE IN, DEFTONES, and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME.

Fueled by political outrage and a never-ending search for truth, the band's message is as potent as their music, and serves as a call to arms for a lost generation. Advocating positivity, unity, and empowerment and taking cues from legendary rabble-rousers and free thinkers like Jello Biafra, Benjamin Franklin, Cynthia McKinney, and Ron Paul, THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL's passion for and dedication to their political causes forms the backbone of the band and sets them a head and shoulders apart from their peers.

"Awaken" was produced by THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL guitarist Marcus de Lisle. Vocals were recorded at Sound Ape in Providence. The album artwork was created by Matt Yazuita and mixing/mastering duties for the album were handled by Sean Small (ABACABB, WE WERE GENTLEMEN, FRIDAY NIGHT BOYS).

THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL is:

Jesse Leach - Vocals
Jake Davenport - Guitar
Marcus de Lisle - Guitar
Nick Sollecito - Bass
Jeff Pitts - Drums

Legendary guitarist Slash will be honored at the third annual Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF)

Legendary guitarist Slash will be honored at the third annual Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF). SSMF will celebrate Slash, who is synonymous with The Sunset Strip, for his contributions to the history of The Strip as well as the music industry. The tribute event kicks off the three-day music fest and honors icons who have made an impact on the legacy of The Sunset Strip. The August 26 event will take place at the House of Blues Sunset Strip.

Adding to the celebration, the City of West Hollywood will also declare August 26, 2010 "Slash Day."

"I am sincerely overwhelmed to be the recipient of the Sunset Strip Music Festival honors! The Strip and West Hollywood have been my stomping grounds since I was a little kid," noted Slash. "I grew up in and around the music scene here. It is where I got my start in the music business and where I still feel most at home. Thank you so much."

Known for his skillful, soulful hard-rock guitar solos, Slash's career has continued to grow from his early days performing at the Whisky A Go-Go with GUNS N' ROSES to his collaborations with Michael Jackson ("Black And White", "Give In To Me"), Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and directors Quentin Tarantino and Darren Aronofsky (core contributions to the "Jackie Brown" soundtrack and the signature sound of the score to "The Wrestler").

Slash traces his love of music and exploring spirit to his childhood in England, where his father introduced him to the sounds of THE BEATLES, THE ROLLING STONES, YARDBIRDS and other classic, groundbreaking acts. He got an insider's view through his teen years after the family moved to Los Angeles, his father a graphic artist who worked with David Geffen for such artists as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell and his mother a costume designer for many top pop artists. Almost on a whim, he and friend Steve Adler started playing music together; Slash on guitar and Adler on drums. In the early '80s, influenced by such bands as Lemmy's MOTÖRHEAD, he and Adler formed a band, recruiting bassist Duff McKagan. Within a year, with the addition of singer Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin, the venture had morphed into GUNS N' ROSES — and by the end of the decade had changed the course of rock history.

Slash has also lent his talents to bands SLASH'S SNAKEPIT and the Grammy Award-winning VELVET REVOLVER as well as a self-titled solo album, which features guest spots from artists including Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, Lemmy, WOLFMOTHER's Andrew Stockdale and Adam Levine (MAROON 5) among others, set for release on April 6.

"You cannot mention The Sunset Strip without thinking of Slash. His influence changed the course of rock and roll and can be seen daily on The Strip," stated Todd Steadman, executive director of the Sunset Strip Music Festival. "He continues to support The Sunset Strip and has been a part of the festival from its inaugural year, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate him for his contributions to this legendary music boulevard."

"The City of West Hollywood is so proud to be home to the world-famous Sunset Strip, and we look forward to again hosting the Sunset Strip Music Festival," noted West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land. "Building on the first two successful events, we're certain that this year's festival will be an amazing celebration of The Strip, its history and great music. That celebration will be even more exciting with the recognition of Slash as one of the festival honorees. He has energized audiences worldwide, but holds a special place in the ongoing legacy of The Sunset Strip."

Previous SSMF honorees include Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine, who helped shape the live music experience on The Strip with the creation of The Roxy Theatre, The Rainbow and the Whisky A Go-Go, and rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, whose first U.S. performance was at the Whisky with BLACK SABBATH in 1970.

Similar to the 2009 SSMF, this year's event will feature live performances in all six music venues (Cat Club, House of Blues, Key Club, The Roxy Theatre, Viper Room and Whisky A Go-Go) on Friday, August 27 and Saturday, August 28. The three-day event will conclude with a street festival on Saturday, August 28, which includes a street closure from San Vicente Boulevard to Doheny Drive allowing for outdoor stages as well as live performances throughout the day and night in the music venues.

More details about the Sunset Strip Music Festival 2010, including artist lineup and ticket information, will be announced.

Vocalist Freddy Cricien was interviewed by Bunch TV

Vocalist Freddy Cricien of New York hardcore legends MADBALL was interviewed by Bunch TV when the band played Cologne, Germany on March 8, 2010 as part of the "Rebellion Tour". Watch the chat below.

MADBALL recently inked a European deal with Nuclear Blast Records. The band's new album is scheduled for release later in the year.

Commented Cricien: "We are entering a new and very important chapter in our lives/career, and I know this is the right home for us in Europe... without a doubt! I feel that all the folks at Nuclear Blast genuinely understand and respect our history, longevity, legacy, etc. I also know they believe in our future, in what we still have to offer, which will manifest itself in our new album coming out this year! Not to mention, it is an honor and privilege to be labelmates with the legendary AGNOSTIC FRONT. We have not shared a label together since our first release on In Effect/Relativity in 1989. Not only are they family, literally, but they are also an inspiration to all of us in the hardcore world and beyond!"

MADBALL's sixth album, "Infiltrate the System", came out August 21, 2007. The band shot the video for the title track on September 12, 2007 in the streets of New York City.

Formed when Cricien was in his early teens, MADBALL has been one of the driving forces of hardcore in recent years delivering anthemic, touchstone albums such as "Demonstrate My Style" (1996) and "Set It Off" (1994).

KORN - brand new song - Oildale

An audio recording of KORN performing a brand new song, "Oildale", on March 26, 2010 in Anchorage, Alaska can be streamed below.

KORN frontman Jonathan Davis confirmed in an interview with a Boise, Idaho radio station that the band has signed with Roadrunner Records, home of acts like NICKELBACK, SLIPKNOT and ROB ZOMBIE. Davis called the label "a good home" for KORN, adding that the band opted for Roadrunner over a larger major label because "they're one of the last real, respected labels left . . . We looked at all the other options and didn't want to go down that road again."

Following the end of their two-album deal with EMI Music, Davis said the band considered releasing its music on its own before deciding to team with Roadrunner. "We could do it on our own, but it's so complicated with all the business aspects and marketing and all that other stuff that I'm never really into . . . for us we really do need a label to back us and help us and do what they do, and they're really good at that," he said.

Guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer let the news slip during an online chat with fans last week.

The new KORN album, "Korn III - Remember Who You Are", is due out this summer. The CD marks the return of producer Ross Robinson, who worked on the band's first two releases, 1994's "Korn" and 1996's "Life Is Peachy".

Davis explained that the title also represented a fresh start for the group. "We feel like it's the third old-school style record, like after 'Life Is Peachy' would be," he said. "Everybody was just sitting around smiling when we were listening to the songs. And 'Remember Who You Are' — it's just like it's taking us back to remembering what we did back when we were kids. This album is that."

The band begins the Canadian leg of its "Ballroom Blitz" tour on Monday (March 29). The U.S. portion — which is doubling as this year's Jägermeister Music Tour — kicks off on May 2 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

KORN will also headline the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour this summer with ROB ZOMBIE.

ARTISTdirect.com editor Rick Florino recently conducted an interview with FAITH NO MORE singer Mike Patton

ARTISTdirect.com editor Rick Florino recently conducted an interview with FAITH NO MORE singer Mike Patton. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

ARTISTdirect.com: Have you always had this fascination with Italy or did it happen after you'd developed an appreciation for the culture?

Mike Patton: It happened after I got married, my friend [Laughs]. I married an Italian lady, and I had to get acquainted. Basically, it started with the language because her family and her parents didn't really speak English. I had to learn the language, so I did that. The longer you spend in a place like that, it really sucks you in. It really envelopes you and makes you feel like one of them. If you say "Ciao," they go, "Oh my God, that's amazing! That sounds great! You're Italian!" It's not like France, where you say, "Bonjour" and they go, "No, no, no, it's Bonjouuurrr!" [Laughs] I had never been taken in like I was in Italy just by saying a few words. That made me feel like I had to put in the effort and I want to be one of them. Have you ever lived abroad?

ARTISTdirect.com: No, I haven't, but I always wanted to go to Italy because I am Italian.

Mike Patton: Well, there you go! You have the best excuse in the world [Laughs]. C'mon! When you do live abroad, you're basically searching for some kind of peace. You don't want to be the fuckin' foreigner. You want to be a part of everyday life there and you don't want anybody to look at you sideways. So you find ways of blending in, and it's a real challenge. I was able to do it, by learning the language well enough and then also really immersing myself in the musical scene there. Oddly enough, I became attracted to the stuff from the '60s and the '70s, and that's where this record comes from.

ARTISTdirect.com: Italian art has always been boundless, from Da Vinci to Dario Argento. That boundlessness is in line with what you've done your whole career. There's never been a set Italian style; anything goes.

Mike Patton: Oh yeah, I think that could be said for most cultures. To be honest, a lot of the tunes that I chose for [the MONDO CANE] record were, in some way, a very strange mirror for what was going on in the States. It wasn't like Italian folk music from novelty or Sicilian choral music. A lot of it was like a very strange refraction of what was going on in America but it came out in a very Italian style. Somehow, I think they put their fingerprint on popular music at that time.

ARTISTdirect.com: Are you going to bring [MONDO CANE] on the road?

Mike Patton: I'm hoping to! It's a difficult and expensive project to bring to life. I'm working on it now. We're doing a tour in Europe in July. It's so much easier to do in Europe for some reason. Maybe later in the fall, I'll do some shows in the States. There are different orchestras every gig. Basically, you show up! We're playing Poland, and they'll be a Polish orchestra. You rehearse with them one day, and then you play concert. Next day, Russia!

ARTISTdirect.com: Given that FAITH NO MORE is back now, what does the band and its catalog mean to you after all of these years?

Mike Patton: Well, it's strange, you know? To be honest, I never thought that I would ever revisit that stuff again. After some reflection and speaking with the guys, I realized, "Well, wait a minute. I'm not embarrassed about it [Laughs]. It's still good music! Is there a way that we can still pull it off and do it justice?" So we rehearsed! When we rehearsed, I realized this is good and I feel great about it. After that, we decided to do some shows. The interest was also kind of staggering. Basically, there's more interest in us now than when we were an active band, which is really strange, kind of haunting and maybe a bit morbid, but it also inspired us. We thought, "Okay, for some reason people are really interested in this. Maybe we should take it as seriously as they are?" [Laughs] You know what I mean?

ARTISTdirect.com: Coachella is a great platform for you to make your big debut back after the San Francisco shows.

Mike Patton: In terms of festivals in the U.S., I can't think of a better one or a more appropriate one. The San Francisco shows are basically warm-ups for us. We're doing them in our hometown and it'll be like a high-five type of evening.

"Beautiful" Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine - by APOCALYPTICA

Fan-filmed video footage of Finnish cello-rockers APOCALYPTICA performing a brand new song, "Beautiful", on March 20, 2010 in Oulu, Finland and then again on March 28, 2010 in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine can be viewed below. The track will appear on the band's seventh studio album, "7th Symphony", which is scheduled for a summer release. The CD was once again produced by Howard Benson (MOTÖRHEAD, PAPA ROACH, SEPULTURA) with "strong artistic direction" from Joe Barresi (TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, COHEED & CAMBRIA), who recently spent time in Finland with classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Perttu Kivilaakso and drummer Mikko Sirén perfecting the final details. Dave Lombardo of SLAYER, along with several other surprise guest musicians, also participated in the project.

The new LP will follow up the band's chart-topping release "Worlds Collide" (2007) featuring the #1 Billboard single "I Don't Care" produced by Benson. THREE DAYS GRACE frontman Adam Gontier provided vocals for the track and sultry video, which became a top 20 fixture on the modern rock charts for nearly an entire year.

"Worlds Collide" has sold around a quarter million copies in the U.S. and marks the group's first significant success in this country in APOCALYPTICA's 15-year career. APOCALYPTICA's Paavo Lotjonen told The Pulse of Radio that their newfound recognition has been worth all the effort. "It's been really amazing, all the success we have got," he said. "Of course it has taken a lot of work and we have given our heart to this. But I feel that it's been worth that and we have reached something new."

SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor contributed vocals to the CD's first single, "I'm Not Jesus".

Eicca Toppinen - Cello

Radio Metal recently conducted an interview with former IRON MAIDEN/WOLFSBANE singer Blaze Bayley

Radio Metal recently conducted an interview with former IRON MAIDEN/WOLFSBANE singer Blaze Bayley. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Radio Metal: What is your relationship like with IRON MAIDEN fans at the moment? Are there any that remained faithful to you because they discovered a voice that they preferred through MAIDEN on "X-Factor"?

Blaze: I meet a lot of fans from the IRON MAIDEN days who say that they have never checked out my solo stuff. Today it seems that people are more open to listen to it. Nowadays, hardcore IRON MAIDEN fans tend to listen to my albums and think of it as another great band to listen to. Obviously, the band is influenced by IRON MAIDEN but we do not want to copy them. Of course, my vocals are similar to IRON MAIDEN because of my time spent in the band. Now we seem to get more IRON MAIDEN fans but it is a real mix of people. The young ones who have discovered us from the catalogues and the older fans, who maybe preferred Bruce, are also coming to the shows. It is an unusual thing yet so far everybody from my era in IRON MAIDEN has enjoyed what we do in Blaze Bayley band.

Radio Metal: Three weeks ago, you were interviewed by Bruce Dickinson for the "Bruce Dickinson Rock Show". Can you tell us about this experience?

Blaze: It is always hilarious when Bruce and I get together. I have known Bruce longer than anyone because he came to see me when I was in WOLFSBANE. We met in New York and there was a lot of talk in Kerrang! saying that we were twins (laughs). So we decided to get our picture taken together and then he bought me a beer. We have never had any animosity towards each other and it is always fun to see Bruce. He really supported my last album on his radio show. I am only in contact with the other guys in IRON MAIDEN. It is fun because there are so many similarities between our lives: we have both been the singers of IRON MAIDEN and we have both left IRON MAIDEN. (laughs)

Radio Metal: Are you sick of people asking you about your relationship with MAIDEN?

Blaze: You would have to put that in perspective because I was always a big IRON MAIDEN fan. I used to listen to some of their classic songs when I was cleaning the floors in the hotel where I worked. As a fan, I knew that if you were in IRON MAIDEN, and you were an ex-member, then everyone would know you. True, IRON MAIDEN fans are excessively interested in the history of the band. I realised this before I even joined the band and even though I never wanted to leave, things did not work out. I knew that after being in IRON MAIDEN, people would always think of me as an ex-member. I loved my time in the band so much that I feel as though it is a badge of honour.

Radio Metal: Your real name is Bailey Cook, however, recently you changed your passport to Blaze Bayley. Could you tell us about this anecdote?

Blaze: In English, the name Bailey is more commonly a second name so people would often get it confused. When I was in WOLFSBANE and we gave ourselves stupid glam names, I just kept Blaze because no one would question me anymore.

Radio Metal: In order to embellish your musical project, you took business classes. At the start, I thought that management, business and communication did not interest you at all and that you are an artist above all. Do you think that, nowadays, musicians are unable to make it on their own?

Blaze: I don't think that it is good enough to be just a musician. The music business has grown in the culture of, you do the music and I will handle the money. This means that management will do anything keep the band happy and questioning what is happening with all the money. They give the band drink, drugs and girls to keep them distracted. When you see that your band has a number one in the charts, you start to ask yourself where the money is and that is when they try to distract you some more. For this reasons, it is bands who have some degree of business knowledge, like Mick Jagger, for example, who are better at maintaining their success. I have the confidence as a singer and as a songwriter; therefore, I understood that in order to be free and independent, I needed to learn the business.

A date in Peru will most likely be added as well.

Video footage of Joey Belladonna singing a karaoke version of the JOURNEY classic "Don't Stop Believin'" on October 10, 2009 at the Spooky Empire VIP party in Orlando, Florida can be viewed below.
Belladonna is currently writing material for a new solo album. Several demos are complete and will be posted on the vocalist's MySpace page soon http://www.myspace.com/joeybelladonna .

Belladonna was the lead singer of ANTHRAX from 1984 to 1992, and was considered part of the band's classic lineup (alongside Dan Spitz, Scott Ian, Frank Bello and Charlie Benante), which reunited and toured during 2005 and 2006. His voice was featured on over 10 albums, which reportedly sold eight million copies worldwide.

After splitting with ANTHRAX, Joey continued to make music with a solo project called BELLADONNA, which released its first self-titled debut in the mid-'90s. A follow-up effort, "Spells of Fear", came out in 1998 and it was heavily criticized for bad production and sloppy musicianship. The third album, or rather the demo recordings for what was supposed to be the third BELLADONNA album that was never recorded in a real studio, was self-released by Belladonna in 2003. It was a return to better songwriting and musicianship and it was well received by the fans.

Asif Salam of SoundShock.co.uk conducted an interview with vocalist Mathias "Vreth" Lillmans

Asif Salam of SoundShock.co.uk conducted an interview with vocalist Mathias "Vreth" Lillmåns of Finnish folk metallers FINNTROLL on March 8, 2010 at the O2 Academy Islington in London, England. Watch the chat below.

FINNTROLL will embark on a spring North American headlining tour, dubbed "Finnish Metal", with support from MOONSORROW and SWALLOW THE SUN. Brought to you by King Foo Entertainment, the tour will cover over 20 cities in what is hoped to be a yearly event.

"Nifelvind", the new album from FINNTROLL, was released in North America on March 9 via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland and was mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios. The album cover artwork was created once again by the band's guitarist Skrymer.

Commented FINNTROLL in a statement: "'Nifelvind' is the most advanced and mature FINNTROLL album to date, with musical themes ranging from powerful death metal riffs to dark soundtracks, from pounding black metal to groovy '80s pop music. All this is accompanied by our trademark sound, lots of never-before-heard instruments in the metal scene, folklore and legends that make it overall the most versatile album we have created so far."

The Real Rock Show conducted an interview with MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick

"The Real Rock Show" conducted an interview with MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick on March 18, 2010 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Watch the chat below.

MEGADETH kicked off its "Rust In Peace 20th Anniversary Tour" on March 1 at the Knitting Factory in Spokane, Washington.

MEGADETH kicked off its "Rust In Peace 20th Anniversary Tour" on March 1 at the Knitting Factory in Spokane, Washington. Also appearing on the bill are TESTAMENT and EXODUS.

MEGADETH recently finished filming a video for the song "The Right To Go Insane" in South El Monte, California. According to bassist David Ellefson, the clip "has a very twisted and demented storyline. It was much different than what I thought it would be. It has no band footage at all. It's a very twisted and intriguing story."

"The Right To Go Insane" comes off MEGADETH's latest album, "Endgame", which was recorded at Vic's Garage, the band's brand new, self-built studio in San Marcos, California. The CD was helmed by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine and British producer Andy Sneap (EXODUS, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY, MACHINE HEAD).

FORBIDDEN recently entered Sonic Room/Audio Voyage studios

Reactivated San Francisco Bay Area metallers FORBIDDEN recently entered Sonic Room/Audio Voyage studios in Livermore, California to begin recording their as-yet-untitled fifth studio album for a late 2010 release via Nuclear Blast Records.

FORBIDDEN guitarist Craig Locicero has offered the following commentary on some of the songs that will appear on the upcoming CD:

** "Overthrow": "It's more of a midtempo cruncher that barrels along like an earth mover. The middle of that song has some Randy Rhoads-era Ozzy-style recording in it; very dark and cool."

** "Omega Wave": "Very much a thrash-style song, an extremely fast muthafucker! That was more of a challenge and a lot fun to play [during the guitar-tracking process]. Super-heavy song."

** "Swine": "[It] has a lot of tempo changes and starts out super-slow and heavy. I had a hell of a time making it as serpentine as I was hearing it [during the guitar-tracking process]. But we nailed it after half a day. 'Swine' is one of our favorite songs and worth all of the work to make right."

** "Immortal Wounds": "[It] is very much a 'Distortion'-era-style chugger. Reminds my of 'Hypnotized by the Rhythm' a little bit. Super-tight, but with a thrash solo section that is one of the fastest we have. It strobes and does some really cool stuff."

Working songtitles set to appear on the new CD include:

* Intro (not final title)
* Swine
* Immortal Wounds
* Omega Wave
* Hopenosis
* Adapt Or Die
* Forsaken At The Gates
* Inhuman Race
* Beyond The Mask
* Dragging My Casket
* Overthrow

FORBIDDEN 2010 is:

* Russ Anderson - Vocals
* Craig Locicero - Guitar
* Steve Smyth (NEVERMORE, TESTAMENT) - Guitar
* Matt Camacho - Bass
* Mark Hernandez (HEATHEN, DEFIANCE, VIO-LENCE) - Drums

Demo versions of two new FORBIDDEN songs — "Adapt or Die" and "Hopenosis" — are available for streaming below. The tracks were recorded and mixed last year by Tim Narducci (SPIRALARMS, SYSTEMATIC) and assisted by Brad Barth at Sonic Room/Audio Voyage studios in Livermore, California.

THE 11TH HOUR — has issued the following update

THE 11TH HOUR — the doom metal collaboration between Ed Warby (drums, guitar, bass, vocals, programming; GOREFEST, DEMIURG, HAIL OF BULLETS) and Rogga Johansson (vocals, additional guitar; RIBSPREADER, PAGANIZER, DEMIURG) — has issued the following update:

"It is with great pleasure that I [Ed Warby] welcome my former GOREFEST buddy Frank Harthoorn to the triple axe live incarnation of THE 11TH HOUR! He'll be sharing the stage with us at all upcoming gigs, including the renowned Doom Shall Rise festival in Göppingen (9th of April). This means we're saying goodbye to Petra Guijt who will, of course, continue to perform with her bands DEADCELL and TOXOCARA. We wish her all the best with her future musical endeavours!

"Frank, meanwhile, has mastered the six chapters of doom that comprise THE 11TH HOUR's debut album, 'Burden Of Grief', and adds considerable weight to the already massive live sound. His dedication to delivering the riff, the whole riff, and nothing but the riff is legendary (at least it is to me), and I look forward to exploring the road to musical misery with this new yet old companion."

THE 11TH HOUR is:

Ed Warby - Guitar, Vocals
Pim Blankenstein - Vocals
Bram Bijlhout - Guitar
Frank Harthoorn - Guitar
Daniël Huijben - Bass
Dirk Bruinenberg - Drums

Upcoming shows:

Apr. 09 - Doom Shall Rise VII - Göppingen, Germany
Jul. 31 - Stonehenge - Steenwijk, Holland
Aug. 14 - Springstof - Kampen, Holland

"Burden Of Grief" was released last October via Napalm Records.

Check out the cover artwork below.

According to the band's official bio, THE 11TH HOUR is "the wretched spawn of two kindred spirits' love for good old fashioned doom metal. In 2007 Ed and Rogga met on the Global Domination forums and made plans to do a doom project together. These plans were sidetracked when Ed joined Rogga's DEMIURG instead, but the seed was planted and every once in a while a nasty doom riff would find its way to Ed's fingers during one of his nocturnal writing and recording sessions. Slowly but surely these riffs were sculpted into six slabs of unbearable heaviness, as bleak and terrifying as the night that inspired them yet suffused with sadness and melancholy beauty."

SERPENTCULT will not be able to participate in Tom Gabriel Warrior's "Only Death is Real" event

Owing to personal circumstances SERPENTCULT will not be able to participate in Tom Gabriel Warrior's "Only Death is Real" event at the 013 on Friday, 16 April 2010. Replacing SERPENTCULT on the bill will be Ireland's ALTAR OF PLAGUES, who will join the Friday lineup and play the "White Tomb" album.

Commented ALTAR OF PLAGUES: "Originally it was a huge honour for ALTAR OF PLAGUES to be invited to play the Roadburn festival, and now to have also been invited by Tom G. Warrior to partake in his 'Only Death is Real' event is something we couldn't have anticipated. We are all very honoured and humbled by the gesture, especially coming from a person which we all hold in such high regard. To make our set different for the 'Only Death is Real' event, we will be playing 'White Tomb' in its entirety for the first time, which is something we feel will make this a very special and unique event for all involved."

The running order has changed slightly. LONGDISTANCECALLING will now start at 21:45 and ALTAR OF PLAGUES will take the stage at 23:15. ALTAR OF PLAGUES is also scheduled to perform at Roadburn 2010 on Saturday, 17 April 2010.

Black metal is experiencing a strong resurgence, heralding bands that meld elements of the Scandinavian originators with more experimental concepts. A plethora of new bands with ambient, jazz, doom and blackened elements from across the metal spectrum have gained notoriety, pumping new life into a genre fraught with stereotypes.

Integrating the frantic production of Scandinavian black metal with the ambience of post metal is ALTAR OF PLAGUES, whose debut album, "White Tomb", is a definitive statement regarding the abilities of the genre.

Nitrox.tv conducted an interview with Australian hard rockers AIRBOURNE when the group played Berlin, Germany on March 13, 2010

Nitrox.tv conducted an interview with Australian hard rockers AIRBOURNE when the group played Berlin, Germany on March 13, 2010.

AIRBOURNE's sophomore album, "No Guts. No Glory.", is scheduled for release in the U.S. on April 20 via Roadrunner Records. The CD came out in Europe on March 8 and in Canada on March 9.

AIRBOURNE traveled to the Windy City to record "No Guts. No Glory." with producer Johnny K, live and straight to analog tape. Like debut album "Runnin' Wild", "No Guts. No Glory." continues that good time vibe, but ultimately, according to drummer Ryan O'Keeffe, the record is about "standing up and going for it, and being a man. There's a tougher element to the album, so to speak." Instead of sleeping every night in a comfortable hotel room bed on the label's dime, the band actually slept in the studio, taking inspiration from Bruce Springsteen and his E STREET BAND, who were known to live in the studio until an album was completed.

AIRBOURNE will be spreading its rock 'n' roll seeds all across the U.S. this spring when it embarks on a full U.S. tour supporting BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE.

Jarret Keene of the Tucson Weekly recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustain

Jarret Keene of the Tucson Weekly recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On the renewed power of MEGADETH, which now includes guitarist Chris Broderick (ex-JAG PANZER, NEVERMORE):

"The guy's an unappreciated genius and has taken us to a whole different place. I feel like we're just starting to scratch the surface as far as what this band can accomplish musically, and where we can go."

On the fact that reviews of MEGADETH's new album, "Endgame", have been tremendously favorable, especially compared to the latest reviews of Mustaine's ex-band METALLICA's 2008 release, "Death Magnetic":

"Our record is probably better than theirs. But I'm already looking ahead to what else we can accomplish. I'm not thinking about who we're beating."

On the current "Rust in Peace 20th Anniversary Tour" during which MEGADETH is performing the 1990 album in its entirety:

"It's a moment for us to revisit and appreciate ['Rust']. It's a great work of art; there's no denying it."

Nitrox.tv has uploaded professionally filmed video footage of GAMMA RAY's March 20, 2010

Nitrox.tv has uploaded professionally filmed video footage of GAMMA RAY's March 20, 2010 performance in Prague, Czech Republic. Watch the 19-minute clip below.

GAMMA RAY tapped Kasperi Heikkinen of AMBERIAN DAWN and the Finnish GAMMA RAY tribute band GUARDIANS OF MANKIND as the temporary replacement for guitarist/keyboardist Henjo Richter, who underwent surgery on March 16 for a "retinal detachment."

Henjo was expected to rejoin his GAMMA RAY bandmates in time for the March 25 concert at KB in Malmö, Sweden.

A retinal detachment is a disorder of the eye in which the retina peels away from its underlying layer of support tissue.

Kasperi previously filled in for Henjo for a few shows in 2006.

For a list of upcoming GAMMA RAY shows, go to this location.

"To The Metal", the new album from GAMMA RAY, was released in North America on March 16 via a new deal between DisManic Distribution and Knife Fight Media.

GAMMA RAY — Kai Hansen (vocals/guitar), Dirk Schlächter (bass), Henjo Richter (guitar) and Daniel Zimmermann (drums) — recorded a total of twelve new songs last fall at its own studio in Hamburg. Ten of the tracks appear on the regular album release, while the remaining two cuts are available on various editions of the album.

Rafi of VampireFreaks.com recently conducted an interview with PRONG mainman Tommy Victor. Watch the 19-minute chat below.

In an October 2009 interview with Target Audience, Tommy Victor stated about the songwriting process for PRONG's next album, "The earlier batch was not like 'Power of the Damager' material. Just to be more general, it was more of a reach towards the 'Rude Awakening' or KILLING JOKE-type material. Then I came up with a couple of, like, you know, brutal thrash ideas and then some other ideas for, uh, total riff rock — like not like modern. I think they sort of go back into the 'Cleansing' era where it was based on GODFLESH or something and then I'll have too see…I've started attacking the riffs again and seem to be in that vein of BLACK SABBATH-oriented or more than we've done. I think it's gonna be cool eventually. It's just like getting the right ideas finding out where we're out going and like throwin' 'em all together and taking a look at it."

He added, "It's all about songs. I mean, PRONG is a songwriting band, ya know? That's why it takes so long, because we just don't go in and have this formula of patterns and, ya know, or just record some really heavy stuff and scream all over it; I have to figure out a lyrical concept and a lyrical line and the lyrics. And I gotta do all that and then, of course, solos and there's a lot on me on the whole thing, unfortunately."

PRONG is continuing to tour in support of "Power Of The Damn Mixxxer", the remix counterpart to the band's 2007 album "Power of The Damager".

BACKYARD BABIES: Munich Pro-Shot Performance, Interview Footage Available

Nitrox.tv has uploaded professionally filmed video footage (see below) of BACKYARD BABIES' February 13, 2010 performance at Backstage Halle in Munich, Germany. Also available is an interview with the band conducted that same day.

In a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine, BACKYARD BABIES guitarist Dregen was asked about the band's recent announcement that it was going on an "indefinite hiatus" and whether the group's next batch of touring could be its last. "Not at all," Dregen replied. "We've been touring, recording and writing for 20 years, the last 10 at a very intense level. It's time for a well-deserved break before we begin writing the next album. . . We're talking months. For the BACKYARD BABIES, two weeks is a long time. If the hiatus lasted for a year, that would be an absolute maximum. During that time we won't be booking any shows, just trying to find a new spark."

To celebrate two decades together, BACKYARD BABIES embarked on the "Them XX Tour" in January/February. In addition, they released a deluxe 120-page book titled "Them XX" containing private photos, three CDs and a DVD-documentary that conveys the 20 years of the BACKYARD BABIES story.

The band's latest, self-titled album topped the chart in the group's home country in its first week of release. The CD also entered the Finnish album chart at No. 31.

Released in Europe on August 18, 2008 via Billion Dollar Babies/Spinefarm, "Backyard Babies" was recorded during 90 sweaty days and nights at Polar and Big Island Sound studios in Stockholm with producer Jacob Hellner (RAMMSTEIN, APOCALYPTICA).

RATT vocalist Stephen Pearcy recently told AOL's Noisecreep about "Best Of Me", "You always think the grass is greener on the other side, but in fact it isn't. So you're letting someone know 'you're the best thing I got, but I had to go fuck around to figure it out.' It's one of those you-don't-know-what-you-got-'till-it's-gone kind of things. With me, I go through this shit every day. I'm married one day, then I'm not, but I am."

"Infestation" was produced by Elvis Baskette (CHEVELLE, ALTER BRIDGE) at his Virginia studio, marking the first time the band has recorded outside of Los Angeles. The album is full of attitude and of reflection, cycling through a range of emotions. There are party anthems that RATT are known for alongside more contemplative, thoughtful tunes.

RATT will guest on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" with host Bob Coburn on Wednesday, April 21 at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET. Fans are encouraged to speak with RATT by calling 1-800-344-ROCK (7625).

ETERNAL LEGACY Completes Drum Tracks For New Album

Cleveland, Ohio-based metallers ETERNAL LEGACY have finished laying down the drum tracks for nine new songs for their forthcoming third studio album entitled "Seeking No Peace". Due out this summer on Auburn Records, the CD is being recorded at the band's own Mercinary Studios in Cleveland with ETERNAL LEGACY guitarist/vocalist Jason Vanek handling production duties.
"The drum tracks sound awesome," says guitarist Shaun Vanek. "Steve [Dukuslow] did a great job. They came out very heavy, just the way we wanted them.
"Jason and I made some improvements to the drum room and invested into buying more recording gear for the studio.
"We're very happy with the way things are progressing so far.
"This recording is going so much quicker than the last one.

OZZY OSBOURNE: New Album Title

According to USA Today, Ozzy Osbourne's new song "Let Me Hear You Scream", from his upcoming album, "Scream", will have its world premiere on an episode of "CSI:NY", to air on CBS on April 14 at 10 p.m., ET/PT. In this episode, a death row inmate's (guest Harold Perrineau) final request brings Dr. Hawkes (series regular Hill Harper) to a Pennsylvania prison and to confront a tragic incident that he has kept secret for many years, just as a prison riot erupts and traps Hawkes inside.

Ozzy's upcoming album, the 10th solo studio effort of his career, was originally called "Soul Sucka", but had its title changed after fans complained. The Prince of Darkness told RollingStone.com, "When we put that on the Internet none of my fan base liked the title. They were like, 'I can't imagine me walking around the fucking house with the words 'Soul Sucka' on my T-shirt.' So I was like, 'Fuck it. I've got to come up with something else!'"

Regarding the musical direction of the new CD, Ozzy told The Pulse of Radio. "It's very heavy. It's a cross between — it's kind of like a SABBATH/Ozzy album, you know. It's kind of, it wasn't meant to, I didn't plan on doing it but that's the way it unfolded. A lot of it's very, very heavy. I just hope people like it. I love it."

The new set is tentatively due out in July.

Ozzy's last solo project, "Black Rain", came out in 2007.

Ozzy also confirmed that Ozzfest will return this summer after taking a one-year break but did not reveal whether it would be a one-shot affair like the 2008 edition or go back to its roots as a traveling event. He also plans to head out on his own headlining arena tour next fall.

The new album and tour will introduce guitarist Gus G. Ozzy parted ways last year with axeman Zakk Wylde, who has played on every Ozzy album and almost every tour since 1988.

Ozzy Osbourne's long-awaited memoir, "I Am Ozzy", debuted at No. 2 on the New York Times' hardcover non-fiction best-seller list. The book was published on January 25 in the U.S., nearly two years after it was first expected to arrive. "I Am Ozzy" chronicles the legendary metal icon's life from his working-class beginnings in Birmingham, England to his initial fame with BLACK SABBATH to his massive solo career and forays into television.

DAYLIGHT MISERY: New Song Featuring ROTTING CHRIST Frontman

The drums for "Depressive Icons" were recorded at Woodshed Studios in Germany by Seraph (DARK FORTRESS, NONEUCHILD) and producer Victor Bullock (DARK FORTRESS, CELTIC FROST). All artwork for the effort was handled by Travis Smith, who has previously worked with NEVERMORE, KATATONIA, OPETH and AMORPHIS, among others.

"Depressive Icons" includes additional guest appearances by Efthimis Karadimas (NIGHTFALL) and Jakob Batten (ILLDISPOSED). The keyboard duties were handled by Q_Snc (UNHOLY RITUAL, SAVAOTH, OBSCECRATION) while the bass was recorded by Stergios Kanaropoulos (MORTAL TORMENT, THE ALMIGHTY FISHERMAN, LYTROSIS).

Video footage of DAYLIGHT MISERY performing "Infinity" on January 9, 2010 at An Club in Athens, Greece can be viewed below.

As previously reported, DAYLIGHT MISERY has announced the addition of drummer Yiannis Filippaios from the highly respected doom/death metal band DECEMBERANCE to the group's ranks.

Formed in September 2008 by Stamos Kordas (guitar) and Vassilis "Illdisposer" Mazaris (vocals), DAYLIGHT MISERY's debut album is described in a press release as an "amalgam of the musical influences of its members: ROTTING CHRIST, NIGHTFALL, PARADISE LOST, AMORPHIS, SATURNUS, MY DYING BRIDE among others. Within the songs you'll notice the changes and sifts of emotions and all of them are characterized by their own unique melody which is sometimes fierce and sometimes melancholic."
